Children at Wüssenswerk School start the day individually during a flexible arrival period. They are greeted personally, creating a first moment of connection between teacher and child. For children travelling by public transport, we offer a shuttle every morning from Thusis station to the school in Sils.
During the first lessons, children work in a learning space of their choice. They explore modules in the compulsory subjects of languages and mathematics, as well as parts of nature, people and society. Children choose whether to work alone or with others.
The teacher accompanies them as a learning guide and coach, offering support and fresh ideas wherever needed.

The teacher accompanies them as a learning guide and coach, offering support and fresh ideas wherever needed. The learning space also provides room for short presentations and focused teaching. Modules cover subtopics of the compulsory subjects and are differentiated by prior knowledge, basic requirements and advanced requirements. They are developed and supplemented with Montessori learning materials.
Like workshop stations, they enable children to work as independently as possible, experiment and check their own progress.
Every child works with an individual, tailored learning plan based on their current knowledge, abilities, pace of learning and next developmental steps. This allows us to accommodate different starting points and support each child where they are.
With the learning booklet we have developed, children keep track of their tasks, goals and progress, documenting their personal learning journey.
For us, learning also includes personal and social development. We deliberately make room for emotions, uncertainties and fears, addressing them together. Social conflicts receive timely, focused support rather than being left unresolved.
Children learn to recognise their own feelings and needs as well as those of others, resolve conflicts constructively and cope with challenging situations. This deliberately strengthens their self-efficacy and resilience.
Italian and English are integrated into everyday school life both as subject lessons in the learning space and through immersive encounters during other parts of the day.
During the four-lesson studio block, pupils work freely on art, design and music projects. Where possible, language assistants accompany independent work and learning on the move, giving pupils immersive encounters with foreign languages.

On Thursdays, the whole school takes part in learning on the move. We go outdoors together and experience in nature what we have learnt in the nature, people and society learning space.
On this day, lunch is part of our school day. Wüssenswerk School places great value on interdisciplinary learning closely connected with nature and the environment.

Fridays focus on life skills, combining movement, personal development and community. Children experience different forms of movement such as yoga, dance and martial arts, and explore mindfulness, happiness, resilience, responsibility, ethics and community. This creates space to understand themselves and others better and develop important skills for life.
